Hi all,
I’m writing to advertise a fundraiser we’re running to support the Poetry Book Society tomorrow night at the Martin Harris Centre.
As you might know, the Arts Council cut all state funding to the PBS this year, threatening the existence of a society established by TS Eliot and others to promote poetry, a job it has done for more than 50 years.
If you are around it would be good to see you at tomorrow night’s event, but if you could forward this message to anyone you think might be interested that would be a great help too.
Here’s a link to the bookings page: http://www.arts.manchester.ac.uk/martinharriscentre/mhceventspage.php?eventid=1066
The Guardian ran a piece on it yesterday which features a photo of Auden who will not be appearing, but it will feature Simon Armitage, Vona Groake, Sean O’Brien, Paul Farley, Deryn Rees-Jones, Jeffrey Wainwright, Jean Sprackland and ten other poets:
