Opportunities to work at Gladstone's Library
If you are looking for a Summer Internship, Gladstone's Library would
make the perfect place to spend the summer while learning more about
librarianship or marketing.
 3 Internships Available 1st June - 31st August
2 Library Internships and 1 Marketing/Arts Admin Internship
Library Internships
The library at Gladstone’s Library is many things: a spectacular
building, a dedicated research environment and a place to be creatively
inspired. Its users include academics, clergy, students, the general
public, creative writers, and many more.
The Library team’s priority is ensuring that the environment retains
its charismatic character, welcoming new users while allowing regular
users to benefit from the hushed quiet working environment.
 The position of Library Intern
is, therefore, a diverse one. Interns work as part of the library team.
A typical day might involve: two shifts on the library’s Enquiry Desk,
the first point of call for library users; reshelving and cataloguing;
designated project work; reviewing library collections; promoting the
library through social media, blog posts, and images.
These internships would suit arts or theology graduates thinking of a career in librarianship.
The Library interns will normally work four weekdays (9:00 – 5:00)
within the library plus 1 half day at the weekend on reception duty. You
will also participate in the Evening Duty rota: 5-10pm (2 x weekday
evenings), the Lunchtime Reception rota (2x weekday lunch) and staff
Reception from 9:00 – 2:00 on either Saturday or Sunday. Your weekly
working pattern will be worked out with, Louisa Yates, your line
manager, and the Warden. The Library Intern’s line manger will be Louisa
Yates (Director of Collections and Research) who will direct and
supervise your work and ensure you have suitable training for each
required task.
 Accommodation, all meals
and utilities will be provided. You will be given a small travel and
general expenses allowance of £100 per month.
All library staff and interns are required to complete the library’s
training courses, which ensure a standard level of core competencies
while ensuring that each staff member receives the training that they
need in order to work both independently and as part of the library
team.
This post would suit an individual seeking experience in librarianship
as well as graduates who would appreciate the chance to work on research
projects in one of the UK’s most significant collections. Irrespective
of academic background, the successful candidate must be able to deliver
excellent customer service, and be enthusiastic about working on a wide
range of tasks with a variety of people.
Applications by Wednesday 1st May. Please send a covering letter, CV, and the names and e-mail addresses of two referees to peter.francis@gladlib.org
Interviews will be held in the first two weeks of May.

to support its Marketing Officer especially with e-newsletters and
social media. The post will also include administration for and
promotion of Gladfest (6th – 8th September), the Library’s first
literature festival. If you are willing we would like to extend your
term to include Gladfest itself.
This internship would suit a graduate who is interested in a career in marketing or arts administration.
